Dean and Race

Look, it's pretty simple. Vermont is so white that their cow's milk looks dark.

I go to Vermont several times per year. It is most unusual to see a brown skinned Vermonter. I really don't know if Sharpton simply doesn't know the Vermont demographic, or if he was merely grandstanding.

From the U.S. Census bureau, 2000:

White persons, percent: 96.8%
Black or African American persons, percent: 0.5%
American Indian and Alaska Native persons, percent: 0.4%
Asian persons, percent: 0.9%
Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, percent: 0.1%
Persons reporting some other race, percent: 0.2%
Persons reporting two or more races, percent: 1.2%
Persons of Hispanic or Latino origin, percent: 0.9%

There is not much of a pool of persons to choose from -- unless they're white.

If Dean had a fully representative cabinet of Vermont's demographic, the cabinet would be all white. In fact, it appears that he in fact, did.

I guess politics is a numbers game only when convenient, or serves some other need.

I'm not defending Dean's choices, but illustrating a basic fact.
